I'll admit that I had no prior interest in cooking Nigerian cuisine, until this book found me...Once I opened it and started reading, I found it increasingly intriguing. It's probably about as complete of a journey to explore this culture, short of visiting the country itself. It's warm, welcoming, authentic, informative, flexible (it honors traditional ingredients while fully acknowledging their potential inaccessibility in other parts of the world, and offers a table of substitute ingredients), nicely photographed, and certainly curated with love.I was actually surprised to find that many of these recipes are nostalgic to me! Not only ingredients, but some of the included dishes were ones that I remember from my own childhood; and making them took me right back to memories of big family gatherings that were always abundant with delicious foods. And several of the other recipes refreshed memories of when my son was young and we'd just moved to a new area - there was a small restaurant that we'd happened upon one day that became a quick favorite, until it shut down about a year later...and I kid you not, I've continued to think (for over a decade now) about how good the food was there. And now, I'm able to replicate some of those dishes in my home, and fondly remember how grateful I was to have found comfort food in an unfamiliar place. That gratitude now extends to all of those who worked on creating this book, for bringing those dishes back to me.Beyond my nostalgia, the recipes in this book that are new to me are intriguing. There are some I likely won't try (at least, not at this time in my life), but many more that are quite enticing. The only thing worth noting for others interested in ordering this cookbook, is that it's probably not a great choice for texture-eaters... Even still, everything that I've tried making from this book so far, I've enjoyed, on account of thoughtful flavors, and overall, I'm very happy that this book found me.
